Well, it can be hard or hardly&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Take the simple word &#8220;Take&#8221;: The same English word is both a noun (&#8220;a <span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"307ddff3-421e-4632-885f-4b190be8d443\"><span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"a645f14a-c9f8-47e1-9b18-6dfdb4e1ad66\"><span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"7b172104-d96c-46e1-9f8c-35b445413397\"><span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"309edd9f-2f62-4273-b14a-88ed75c55642\"><span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"369ed5c3-8f8c-43d6-b4cc-e7d19993d28d\">take<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>&#8220;, referring to recording a movie scene) and it is also a verb (&#8220;to take&#8221;). Simultaneously, the cousin-word &#8220;taken&#8221; doubles as both past tense of the verb, and an adjective, AND an adverb. Wow, English can be so concise! \ud83d\ude42 The tendency of the English language <span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"4f3ba0bd-3e76-47c7-91f6-d6d474933e01\"><span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"c4b5fb22-8322-45d3-9c01-439fcd90ecf7\"><span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"d2c422ec-8756-4648-a417-1626ca415163\"><span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"231223a6-de46-4af0-86ee-c70263e9c23e\"><span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"8ef504a9-3770-43bd-be01-2cfbff152637\">to<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span> often use the same exact word for all grammatical variations can make it <span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"9b3d84a2-4bfd-42b2-be25-fa0cf5b75230\"><span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"31d819c4-e191-4c04-a83b-57ca4c72d24b\"><span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"3e759db8-76ab-466a-95d7-d0b840772214\"><span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"c773e693-e0bb-445a-a3c2-265754e5759f\"><span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"3b9db505-9bbd-476e-b943-fd70335cd89a\">some times<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\u00a0hard to understand the English at hand, not to mention the challenges of localizing to a different language. On one hand: you can have something absolutely correct because in English the noun, the verb, the adjective or the adverb are often the very same word. On the other hand: it can be absolutely wrong: the sameness of two English words can make the word(s) slip through the localization\/translation machinery and appear at the other end in entirely wrong shape for the target language.<\/p>\n<p>Examples:<\/p>\n<p>A web site button labelled &#8220;Pay&#8221; &#8212;&gt; This is an order to pay for merchandise, which in Danish would have the correct translation: &#8220;Betal&#8221;. Database-based &#8220;translation systems&#8221; that hold single words and sentences of a web site in different languages can <span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"9f3f64cc-4f1c-4ed0-8ee6-46d0635c8409\"><span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"15db3782-3506-4cda-9303-757b8d0184d4\"><span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"478f3d40-769c-44c3-981b-ebb0b663b859\"><span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"eaea5929-4709-4b09-8959-3b70e9b8d692\"><span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"739f96d4-fa89-4ff8-8907-ebabee76a501\">some times<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span> be too simplistic in their approach&#8230; So, <span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"d0627312-a5f8-4eff-b5b9-f93a0cabe530\"><span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"2bc732d6-9d10-4047-b017-7b9d3db6f5e3\"><span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"d6961cf0-0cdf-4f95-92b4-bd17491ebf16\"><span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"30fe312c-29ee-4ec4-bbf7-a7205be7d82e\"><span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"51d09e0d-af64-4522-a4fb-84b1e5d4f937\">next time<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span> these systems encounter the word &#8220;Pay&#8221; they often would go: &#8220;Aha! &#8220;Pay&#8221;, we&#8217;ve seen that before, we have a match, let&#8217;s insert the Danish word &#8220;Betal&#8221; then&#8221;. <em>And that would be incorrect.<\/em><br \/>\nWhile English uses the same word in a request to pay and in a sentence about payments, in Danish they would be two words with different endings:<\/p>\n<p><strong>English ==&gt; Danish<\/strong><br \/>\nTo pay &#8211;&gt; At <span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"51d241e5-8a7d-4378-a871-64796daff909\"><span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"60c5cbc5-501a-4a61-ae71-543f1f14fbb0\"><span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"7bb6f49e-fc3e-4dae-ae86-7ac4abe041b7\"><span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"d6b4b860-9af5-4e70-8d27-38936eba2b6c\"><span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"2653f005-7770-457f-80cf-49494f688dba\">betale<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><br \/>\nWould you like to pay? &#8211;&gt; Vil du gerne betale? (<span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"e0726673-073e-4338-9023-89eae7b2e770\"><span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"7cc33749-eb7f-4938-b0ab-413579ebbe5a\"><span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"c16f7a6d-e34a-4de0-a930-20d5baa9874c\"><span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"f7b3dbcb-ef25-4267-8473-6fbf291a5125\"><span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"a6396fe7-9abd-4353-93a6-d7dbb5247139\">loses<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span> -e at the end)<\/p>\n<p>Danish generally has two forms of a verb: the passive one ends with <span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"cddcd0d9-0621-4bd0-a497-5c5f4b64065d\"><span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"2a2bbe47-7ba4-4667-99f3-253024e7f9e0\"><span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"3148b608-4260-4d1d-a26c-e416b13c9276\"><span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"df8d87dd-3c0e-4e50-b56f-5c0f3bb5ca6a\"><span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"88401fdc-d7d0-4a18-b0f3-cbaff1ddd3cb\">an<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span> -e and in the <span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"596cd1b8-476f-4ee0-97db-f8c6bb42faf3\"><span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"64164128-1cf6-4511-af79-1ef16357f9c5\"><span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"6f4fff83-afdb-47d8-8fa2-7a352321b007\"><span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"1351dc96-9cde-4074-af0a-dba6994c081d\"><span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"fb7b3442-43cc-47f3-a505-b657e84b7f11\">active<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span> version the ending -e is omitted.
