{"id":24,"date":"2012-04-07T15:00:16","date_gmt":"2012-04-07T22:00:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rottendanish.pereffect.com\/wp\/?p=24"},"modified":"2012-04-07T15:00:16","modified_gmt":"2012-04-07T22:00:16","slug":"why-rotten-danish","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rottendanish.com\/?p=24","title":{"rendered":"Why &#8220;Rotten Danish&#8221;?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The\u00a0name for this blog,\u00a0\u201c<strong>Rotten Danish<\/strong>\u201d, was the brain child of my colleague, friend and ping-pong sensei\u00a0Erwin Hom and\u00a0was chosen of course partly because of my Danish affinities, as most of the posts in this blog will be from my professional life as Danish Linguist, but also the beauty of &#8220;Rotten Danish&#8221; is in all the ways in which these two words can be\u00a0ambigous, understood or misunderstood:<\/p>\n<p>Is it a Hamlet reference (\u201cThere\u2019s something rotten in the state of Denmark\u2026\u201d)?<br \/>\nIs it talking about the Danish soccer players who beat my favorite team?<br \/>\nAre we talking about the Grauballe Man, the 2000 years old mummified body of an Iron Age Dane found in a peat bog in 1953? That&#8217;s quite a rotten Dane, indeed&#8230;<br \/>\nOr are we referring to some baked goods, danishes, going bad?<br \/>\nOr is there a live rat involved some place?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Yes! Only two words, and so many possibilities\u2026 <\/strong>Enjoy.
