Take, for instance, the word &#8220;<strong>Pay<\/strong>&#8220;:\u00a0 Depending on the bigger context\u00a0it can stand for a gentle\u00a0order: &#8220;please <strong>pay<\/strong> now&#8221;, a choice in infinitive form: &#8220;you can chose <strong>to pay<\/strong> now\u00a0or\u00a0later&#8221;, or\u00a0a noun: &#8220;receive your <strong>pay<\/strong>&#8220;. Unfortunately, we often see it just standing there all\u00a0by its lonesome self in source materials to be localized.<br \/>\nWhen localizing to a language with slightly different inflection rules, like Danish, each of the above contexts of &#8220;Pay&#8221; calls for a different translation:<\/p>\n<p>Pay (verb, order)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0==&gt; Betal<br \/>\n(to) Pay (verb, infinitive)\u00a0 ==&gt; (at) Betale<br \/>\n(monthly) Pay (noun)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0==&gt; L\u00f8n<br \/>\nPayment (noun)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0==&gt; Betaling<\/p>\n<p>I hope someone <strong>pays attention<\/strong>! -Which by the way would be total rubbish in most\u00a0other languages,\u00a0if translated literally.<br \/>\nIn Danish we &#8220;are attentive&#8221; or &#8220;give attention&#8221;, but we don&#8217;t &#8220;<strong>pay<\/strong> attention&#8221;. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<div class=\"fcbkbttn_buttons_block\" id=\"fcbkbttn_left\"><div class=\"fcbkbttn_button\">\n                            <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/Andre.Perman\" target=\"_blank\">\n                                <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/rottendanish.com\/wp-content\/plugins\/facebook-button-plugin\/images\/standard-facebook-ico.png\" alt=\"Fb-Button\" \/>\n                            <\/a>\n                        <\/div><div class=\"fcbkbttn_like \"><fb:like href=\"https:\/\/rottendanish.com\/?p=64\" action=\"like\" colorscheme=\"light\" layout=\"button_count\"  size=\"small\"><\/fb:like><\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>With English having\u00a0relatively few inflection rules, many words in English have to do double-duty as both nouns and verbs, or nouns and adjectives.
